News: Multisport Association of Russia will defend its members’ rights at the international level

The decision to support the International Federation of Amateur Sambo (FIAS) has been taken today at the Executive Committee of Multisport Association of Russia. The president of European and Russian Sambo Federation and AMSR vice-president Sergey Eliseev made a speech concerning the conflict between FIAS and FILA at the Executive Committee.

Sergey Eliseev called the statement of returning sambo under the jurisdiction of FILA that was expressed by the President of FILA Rafael Martinetti «a legally invalid opinion». Earlier David Rudman, the President of FIAS, declared in his interview to Sportcom, - “FILA does not have any right to interfere with the affairs of national federations that have elected FIAS their supreme federation and to subjugate them under compulsion. The Congress of FIAS rejected FILA letter and called it provocative”.

It is said in the resolution of the Executive Committee of MAR that FIAS is a full GAISF member and any attempt to take a self-regulating social organization under control without the agreement of its members should be given legal treatment.

The appearance of the FIAS President David Rudman and MAR representatives, the vice-president Sergey Eliseev and the secretary general Alexey Kylasov, are planned for the session of the General Assembly of International Sport Federations on the international convention Sport Accord that will take place in Seoul (South Korea) in the period from 3 to 9 April.

Besides, AMSR and FIAS representatives have intentions to conduct several high level meetings with the direction of IWGA and ARISF for the purpose of returning sambo into the program of the World Games. In 1993 at the 4th World games in Hague sambo was included in the program of the competitions. The leaders of the sambo federations think that the inclusion of the sport in the program of the Games is the first step to the recognition by the IOC. Such kinds of sport as taekwondo and trampoline gained the recognition in the similar way.
