News: The Head of Moscomsport Mikhail Stepanyants was elected Vice-President of the Multisport Association of Russia The Head of Moscomsport Mikhail Stepanyants was elected Vice-President of the Multisport Association of Russia at the Constituent Assembly which took place on Friday in the Board hall of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).
The members of the Multisport Association of Russia – federation of sports not included in the Olympic Games – entrusted him, as a member of the ROC Executive Committee with presenting their interests in the governing body of the Olympic Committee.
Mikhail Stepanyants declared after his election,
‘Since there is no particular member of the ROC Executive Committee, who represents non-Olympic sports, I am ready to do it. At my major work in Moscomsport I also try not to distinguish between kinds of sport, because everything that is interesting to people, that develops them and distracts the young from the streets, is worth supporting. Our objective is to popularize sports and help sportsmen, aimed at higher achievements. If we look at obligations concerning medals, we may see that a lot of non-Olympic sports fulfill them, and there are a lot of successful federations among them. We have a lot to be proud of. I hope I will be able to justify the expectations and provide support to non-Olympic sport.’
Established a year ago, the Multisport Association of Russia has admitted new members and now unites 32 federations. In his speech to the Assembly delegate the ARISF President Jan Fransoo noticed that similar to the way the ARISF unites international federation recognized by the IOC, the Multisport Association of Russia will represent interests of the national federations. Jan Fransoo also hopes that in the nearest future the Multisport Association of Russia will join all the non-Olympic federations of Russia. |
