News: Ethnosports – a new stage in development of traditional games and sports of the people  On April, 21st, 2011 in St.-Petersburg on V International congress «People, Sport, Health» under patronage of the Secretary General of Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland MAR Secretary General, research scholar of the Russian Sport Science Institute Dr. Alexey Kylasov, has presented the ethnosports concept.
The congress has taken place with support the IOC, Authority of the President on maintenance of activity of the State Council of the Russian Federation, Ministry of sports of the Russian Federation, the State Duma, the Council of Federation and Government of St.-Petersburg. Leading experts of sports, medicine, physiology, psychology, sociology and management from the different countries of the world have taken part in it.
The general secretary of the Multisport Association of Russia, research scholar of the Russian Sport Science Institute Dr. Alexey Kylasov has suggested to replace definition «national sports» with another one, used in the world sports and scientific circles: «traditional games and sports» with corresponding abbreviation «TGS». In connection with such definition he has offered also the short form «ethnosports». Thus, ethnosports are traditional games and sports.
«In case of realization of this proposal in the Ministry of sports of the Russian Federation any ethno cultural kind of physical activity can be registered in the registrar like discipline of ethnosports. It will allow avoiding difficulties with recognition of ethno cultural kinds of physical activity which existed during the whole history of mankind, long before the appearance of «sports» definition. For example, sack-race or dances on stilts, climbing on a column or bathing in an ice-hole and so forth.
Renaming is directed on mutual understanding between the people and expansion of the international cooperation; it will promote development of dialogue of cultures, and will allow adjusting an effective exchange of experience of the different people on preservation and development of traditional games and the competitions which are an integral part of the world cultural heritage.
Coordination and development of ethnosports throughout many years are already promoted with Multisport Association of Russia which has membership in TAFISA organization - the general partner the IOC and UNESCO in its cluster of world sports», – Alexey Kylasov has concluded.
